Your Case Is Personally Administered by Dr. Sudhir Ajja

Dr. Sudhir Ajja leads the strategic and regulatory framework for every surrogacy case at Zoi Fertility. Since 2007, with over 1,900 surrogacy cases administered under full ART Act 2021 and Surrogacy Regulation Act compliance, he ensures that the legal architecture protecting intended parents and surrogates is fully constructed before any clinical protocol begins.

Dr. Sudhir Ajja operates under a governing principle: legal certainty must be established before the first medical protocol begins. As co founder of four integrated fertility platforms and the administrative authority overseeing ART Act compliance at Zoi Fertility, he ensures that every agreement, consent, registration, and regulatory filing is validated against current Indian reproductive law, creating a legally insulated framework that protects parentage, citizenship, and the integrity of the process from start to finish.

The Antenatal Care That Makes a Difference

Pre pregnancy health

We suggest keeping surrogates admitted at any clinic for a minimum 15 day, to avoid any physical exertion, and to avoid relationship with their husband till the beta (bHCG) test is performed to confirm the pregnancy status. Once a surrogate is pregnant extend her stay further by 15 days, till the number of sacs and cardiac activity is established.

Frequent Ultrasound Sonographies
In the initial weeks, scans to be done on a weekly basis to rule out any early pregnancy concerns. In the second trimester, scans to be done fortnightly, including Malformation / Anomaly scans. Again in the third trimester, the scans are performed more frequently.
Routine Investigations
Perform all routine blood tests, including systemic tests like thyroid, diabetes, renal function, liver function test and Infectious screening for both surrogate and her husband.
Genetic Screening
To rule out chromosomal abnormalities in the foetus, to do, double maker NFT scan at 12 weeks, and malformation scan at 19 weeks. We have added NIPT as an advanced test into our basket.
Obstetric Visits
Monitors her BP, pulse, weight, routine obstetric check, and advice for further management. To continue iron, calcium, vitamins, minerals, protein biscuits and protein powder.

Planning Delivery

The date is always planned with parents consent to make sure they are present at the time of delivery to experience the most beautiful movement of their life, unless in cases of emergency.
Information Sharing
All the above mentioned reports and information will be sent to you on a regular basis. This is how you keep in touch with your baby, baby’s growth and surrogate health.

FAQs

Ask Questions about Surrogacy

Yes, you can ship or transfer the embryos provided we have taken consent from the National Board, as prescribed in the ACT.

Altruistic surrogacy means the surrogate has voluntarily agreed to carry a baby without expecting or gaining any compensation.

Anyone breaking the laws are subject to a imprisonment for up to 10 years and or penalty of Rs 10 lacks.

Yes, only if medical indicated. No person, organization, surrogacy clinic, laboratory, or clinical establishment can force the surrogate to abort.

Yes, the surrogate mother can withdraw her consent but only before the implantation of embryos.

Surrogacy Cost in Mumbai

Transparency matters when you are making one of the biggest decisions of your life. At Zoi Fertility, we provide a complete cost breakdown so there are no surprises. Every package includes IVF treatment, surrogate compensation, legal documentation, and pregnancy monitoring under one roof.

Self Cycle Surrogacy

When the intended mother provides her own eggs for IVF. This is the most common and preferred route when the mother is medically able to produce viable eggs. The cost typically ranges from 10 to 15 lakhs depending on the number of IVF cycles needed.

Altruistic Surrogacy

Under the 2021 Surrogacy Regulation Act, only altruistic surrogacy is permitted in India. The surrogate cannot receive monetary compensation beyond medical expenses and insurance coverage. Zoi ensures full compliance with this requirement in every case.

Frozen Embryo Transfer

For couples who already have frozen embryos from a previous IVF cycle, the surrogacy process becomes more streamlined. The cost is lower since egg retrieval and fertilisation are not required, and the timeline is often shorter.

Who Is Eligible for Surrogacy in India?

The Surrogacy (Regulation) Act 2021 sets clear eligibility criteria for both the intended couple and the surrogate mother. At Zoi Fertility, we handle the documentation and compliance so you can focus on starting your family.

Intended Couple Criteria

The couple must be Indian citizens who have been legally married for at least 5 years. The wife should be between 23 and 50 years old, and the husband between 26 and 55 years old. A medical certificate confirming the need for surrogacy from a District Medical Board is required. The couple must not have any surviving biological, adopted, or surrogate child, except when the existing child has a life threatening disorder.

Surrogate Mother Criteria

The surrogate must be a married woman between 25 and 35 years old who has at least one healthy child of her own. She can only act as a surrogate once in her lifetime. She must be a close relative of the intended couple, and her own spouse must provide written consent. A comprehensive medical and psychological evaluation is conducted before she is approved.

District Medical Board Approval Process in Mumbai

Before surrogacy can proceed, the intended couple must obtain approval from the District Medical Board. This is a government body that verifies all eligibility conditions are met. At Zoi Fertility, we have helped hundreds of families navigate this process successfully.

What the Process Involves

The District Medical Board reviews 11 separate permissions covering medical necessity, legal eligibility, surrogate qualification, and insurance documentation. Our legal team prepares the complete application with all supporting documents so your case is processed without delays.

The typical approval timeline in Mumbai is 2 to 4 weeks from the date of submission. Zoi Fertility coordinates directly with the Board on your behalf, which means fewer visits and less paperwork for you.

Once approved, the surrogacy agreement is drawn up by our legal partners and registered. Only after this legal step is completed does the IVF and embryo transfer process begin.

Over 18 Years of Surrogacy Experience

Zoi Fertility, formerly known as SurrogacyIndia, has been facilitating surrogacy journeys since 2007. We were among the first clinics in India to offer structured surrogacy programmes, and today we are one of the most experienced teams in the country.

With over 1,900 surrogacy cases completed and a dedicated team that includes fertility specialists, embryologists, counsellors, and legal advisors, we bring a depth of experience that is hard to match. Every case is unique, and we treat it that way.

SURROGACY IN INDIA

Why Zoi Is India’s Most Experienced Surrogacy Programme

Surrogacy in India is no longer unregulated. It is no longer simple. And it is no longer something any fertility clinic can credibly offer.

Since 2007, Zoi Fertility — through its dedicated SurrogacyIndia programme — has facilitated over 1,900 surrogacy cases. That is not a volume claim. It is a body of clinical and legal experience that few centres in the country can match. Dr Yashodhara architected this programme from its inception, navigating every regulatory shift — from the 2021 Surrogacy Regulation Act to the 2023 amendments — while maintaining an 80%+ surrogacy success rate.

The stakes in surrogacy are not just medical. They are legal, emotional, and generational. Zoi treats every one of those dimensions.

THE SURROGACY PROCESS

How Surrogacy Works at Zoi Fertility

Legal Compliance First

Indian surrogacy law is now among the most strictly regulated in the world. Only altruistic surrogacy is permitted. At Zoi, every surrogacy case begins with a legal eligibility assessment — before a single medical test is ordered. Documentation, consents, and regulatory filings are completed with the precision of a legal proceeding. Your child’s parentage, citizenship, and inheritance rights depend on it.

Surrogate Screening and IVF

Every gestational surrogate undergoes comprehensive medical, psychological, and background screening. Embryos are created through IVF/ICSI in Zoi’s continuously monitored laboratory — the same environment that supports a 65%+ overall IVF success rate. Dr Yashodhara performs embryo transfers personally.

Pregnancy Monitoring

From confirmation to delivery, the surrogate’s pregnancy is monitored under a structured prenatal protocol. Regular scans, blood work, and clinical reviews ensure that both the surrogate’s health and the baby’s development are tracked with the vigilance this responsibility demands.

YOUR SURROGACY SPECIALIST

Dr Yashodhara — Clinical Courage in Complex Cases

Not every surrogacy case is straightforward. Zoi has managed cases that other centres would decline — including the world’s first IVF cycle for a patient with a heart-lung transplant, resulting in a healthy child born via surrogate. Cases involving autoimmune conditions, prior cardiac events, ovarian translocation after cancer surgery, and rare genetic disorders have all been managed within this programme.

Dr Yashodhara’s 27 years in reproductive medicine, combined with fellowship training across Singapore, Australia, Turkey, and the UK, give her the clinical range to evaluate risks that fall outside standard protocols.

When the case is complex, the strategy must be equally sophisticated. That is when experience separates the exceptional from the adequate.

Surrogacy for OCI and NRI Families

Indian surrogacy law has specific provisions for OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) cardholders. The eligibility criteria, documentation requirements, and legal process differ from resident Indian couples. Zoi has dedicated experience managing surrogacy for OCI and NRI families — including navigating the intersection of Indian surrogacy law with the citizenship and immigration requirements of the intended parents’ country of residence.

Families from the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, UAE, Germany, Holland, Norway, Sweden, Singapore, Hungary, and Nepal have trusted Zoi to construct the most consequential chapter of their lives.

If you hold an OCI card and are considering surrogacy in India, begin with a legal and medical eligibility review.
