What is a Donor

A Sperm Donor is a man who donates his sperm for another woman or couple, so they have can conceive and have their child. Abroad the regulations are different, in India, the Sperm Donor has to be anonymous.

Egg Donor is a woman who donates her eggs/oocytes after going through the stimulation and retrieval process. Similar to Sperm, even Egg Donation is an anonymous procedure in India.

Remember, the Donor option is never the First Option. Usually, the couple exhausts all other options, and only then do they move on to the Donor option.

Egg Donor

This is the perfect option for women whose eggs are not viable/healthy enough or whose fertility diagnosis may indicate she has no egg available. This procedure involves fertilizing (joining) the father’s sperm together with the donor’s egg from which the resulting embryo is being transplanted. The success rate of this method is similar to those of IVF treatment. Nowadays the use of donor eggs is becoming very common to treat infertility in women, especially among women over 40 years.

Sperm Donor

This is common among the males whose sperm counts are low or non-existent. This procedure involves extracting viable sperm from a sample. Fortunately, if sperm is non-existent, then your best option is to settle for a donor sperm that can be infused with the mother’s egg to induce pregnancy. Again sperm donation is a common phenomenon today, to such a point that we now hear of sperm banks who are willing to sell healthy sperm to couples struggling to conceive.

Risks of Donors

No Risks: There are no risks to the donor who donates sperms. This is by an act of masturbation and involves no medications or surgical intervention.
