IUI Treatment Overview
IUI is Intrauterine Insemination or also called Artificial Insemination. IUI treatment is the first treatment plan in artificial insemination for couples trying to conceive without any obvious medical factors involved. The semen sample is prepared in the lab and then gently inserted inside the wife/partner’s uterine cavity. The expectation is that the sperm travels through the uterine cavity into the fallopian tube, meets the egg to fertilize, and thereby achieve a pregnancy.
Why Artificial Insemination?
Usually, a couple may not get pregnant for multiple reasons. IUI or Intra-Uterine Insemination can be used for a few of the following conditions.
* Sperm Problem: If the husband or partner’s sperm is low on quantity or quality or has many abnormal sperms, doing an insemination procedure rules out all the sperm factors preventing pregnancy. This procedure helps collect healthy, strong, highly motile sperms.
* Cervical Factor: Mucus is produced in the cervical area of the vagina during the ovulation phase which nourishes the sperms and helps them to travel into the uterine cavity to the fallopian tube. If the cervix is injured or mucus is too thick, the sperms are unable to reach the egg. Performing IUI bypasses the cervix and its mucosal issues.
* Unexplained Infertility: When there are no obvious reasons for infertility in a couple, Intrauterine insemination is considered the first line of treatment for better IUI success. If you have hostile cervical mucus, minor sperm abnormalities, or other male disorders, IUI is sometimes a successful option.
* Endometriosis: Usually in minor endometriosis, the ovary is stimulated to get an egg and then perform the IUI by inseminating the semen.
* Ovarian ovulation: At times the ovary does not ovulate. This issue can be addressed by stimulating the ovary with medications and doing IUI treatment.
* Sperm Allergy: Rarely you may find women’s vaginas are allergic to semen, causing redness or rash. To avoid this, artificial insemination could be the best treatment option.

IUI Success Rate
In cases where Intra Uterine Insemination is recommended, the success rate is about 20%, across all ages and cases. A good Fertility Evaluation of a couple is important to identify if they need IUI or IVF. IUI Success Rate is low in comparison with the IVF cycle, but it also means many couples who actually needed IVF were undergoing IUI instead. Zoi Fertility believes in thorough but running only required tests for the couple, to decide which treatment option is best for them.
Pregnancy Test
The best is to perform a b-HCG blood test on the 13th day after the insertion. This should confirm the pregnancy results.
